Installing new seat covers is a lot harder than you might think, especially if you want to do it right. There are many little procedures required to get the new covers to fit how to stop smell from septic tank and look right.

When removing the original seat covers, take extra care to bag and tag the many clips, washers, rods, and other small parts that will be reused with the new covers. Next, remove the smaller rings on the inner surface of the seat.

These go around another wire rod in the seat cover longer, but also in a sleevethrough foam and around the seat frame. These are much easier to take out than to put in. Note how they look as you take them out. After the cover has finally been taken off of the lower cushion, you need take out the three wire rods in the cover.

To prevent the rings from being visible and making the seat bumpy and uncomfortable, they must be covered with padding.

This material is made from fabric scraps and is very inexpensive but still soft and easy to work with. Simply cut it into strips long enough to wrap around the seat frame and wide enough to overlap both sides by an inch or so.

Spray the padding and the burlap with adhesive before pressing it on and molding it to match the frame contours. The finished seat frame should look like this prior to being assembled with the seat bun. Note the padding extends all the way around the frame, all the way to the rear where the seat back will pivot. There is no need to cover the inner rings; the thickness of the bun will be enough to do so.

Liberally spray adhesive along the surface of the padding and where it makes contact with the bun and then assemble the finished seat frame and the bun together. There is no need to spray the center of the bun or the burlap in general. This can actually prevent proper movement of the various parts and how to reupholster mustang seats make future disassembly difficult. After the bun and frame have been assembled together, allow time for the adhesive to dry.

Then take the U-shaped wire rod you saved from the original seat cover and place what is the 9th and 10th amendment in the groove in the bun.

Use the bun as a guide to bend the rod back to the proper shape before inserting it into the designated sleeve in the new seat cover. Feeding the rod into the sleeve takes a fair amount of patience but it eventually goes in. Place the cover with the rod in it over the bun and begin installing the rings in the groove. Make sure the ring grabs both the wire rod and the underlying metal of the seat frame. Put the rings where you found them when you took the old cover off. To help make the seat a bit more comfortable and look better, it is a good idea to add a thin layer of extra foam along the top edge of the lower seat cushion. As with the padding used on the frame, cut a strip to size—long enough to wrap around the seat and wide enough to cover the outer cushion. Then spray the bun and the foam with adhesive before pressing the foam on the bun and molding it to shape. Excess foam can be squeezed together at the corners and trimmed as shown to remain even.

The first part of the new cover to be secured to the frame is the front edge. Then clamp the rings on at the proper locations so they grip the seat frame and the wire rods in the sleeves. This may take some effort and patience. Be careful not to overheat any areas by holding the gun too still or too close for too long. The idea is to stretch and remove wrinkles, not to melt anything.

To locate the holes for the installation of the circular bumpers, use an awl to poke a hole in the seat cover after dragging the point to find the right spot. Then use a razor blade or knife to make the hole large enough to clear the mounting bolts.

The hinge pin must be exposed, so cut the seat lower cover enough to allow it to poke through. Trim away all excess material such that the cover is even around the pin. Take one of your new seat backs and roll the lower edge up a few times to make this install easier for you.

Once you have the lower edge rolled, start to slip this over the top edge of the foam. Be patient here, these are meant to be a tight fit so you may experience a little bit of repeated back and forth seating of the upholstery until you get it to where it should be.

Insert your hand in between the foam and the upholstery and line up your hook and loop strips. Using one hand on the inside and one on the outside, slowly align these and fully seat these together. Now you can unroll the remaining fabric on the lower edge. Using a razor blade, make a small X shape on your stud and push this through. Make sure to make small cuts here so you do not have an ugly mistake on your install. Moving to the other side, make another X cut for the bolt hole on this side.

Again, make small cuts until this is completely open for the hardware to pass through. Now you can hog ring your flaps down. Go ahead and load a new hog ring into your pliers. Pull the carpet and the fabric side as tight as possible and then you can hog ring these together. The J clip on the bottom will be next. This one can be a little tedious here so do not get discouraged. Pull the front and the back as tight as you can get it on each side.

Once you have any remaining slack out, start on one edge of the j clip and insert the male end into the female. Now that you have one edge started, you can slowly work your way down. Make sure to pull each side while seating the J clip to help remove any excess slack and wrinkles. The last step on the seat backs will be the latch trim. We noticed on our application that one of the trims had a slight defect and was a little tweaked. We used a heat gun to help make this a little more malleable and bent this one straight.

Set this one in place and pass both of the pull loops through their designated hole. Now you can install the 4 phillips head screws. Start by installing the listing rods into the new upholstery.

Using your hog ring pliers, install two hog rings on the rod to the foam. Space these out evenly on each side. You can go ahead and pull the fabric through the seat belt buckle area. Now you can secure the inner flaps together on these. Start on the inner edges first then move to the outer edges after and secure these with a few hog rings in each spot. Next, we can align and seat the hook and loop strips on each side. Take your time here and pull the upholstery tight to help alleviate any wrinkles when doing this.

Now we will start to go back in with new hog rings around the perimeter of the foam. I like to start in the center and alternate from side to side. This way you can slowly work out as many wrinkles while pulling the upholstery as tight as possible.

There is no specific pattern here really, you can go back with just the factory locations, but you can always add in more hog rings periodically if need be. Once you have all of the perimeter completed, flip the foam back over and you can try to work out any remaining wrinkles you may have. This is a great way to update and refresh the interior of your Mustang. This job should take you a solid afternoon to complete. When installing new upholstery we just want to stress to have a clean work surface and take your time.

This will involve a lot of tugging and pulling to make sure everything seats properly but the more time you take the better your final product will be. Start by removing the rear seats from the car.
